At the weekly Cabinet meeting today (Sunday), 17.04.94:
1. A) Within the framework of the Ministerial Committee on National Security, the Prime Minister, the Chief of Staff, the Police Inspector-General, and the Coordinator of Activities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza briefed the Cabinet. The briefing included the murderous attack in Hadera and issues regarding the Lebanese border.
B) The Cabinet approved the continued employment of 3,000 Israeli workers in immediate work with the Jewish National Fund and the Antiquities Authority until 31.08.94, at a cost of NIS 22 million. The Cabinet also approved the continuation of public works and the social welfare budget in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza for May, at a cost of NIS 30 million.
C) The Cabinet was informed of the granting of permits for agricultural work to 4,500 Palestinians (aged 35 and over) from Judea, Samaria, and Gaza.
D) The Finance Minister reported on the economic negotiations with the Palestinians in Paris last week.
2. The Foreign Minister briefed the Cabinet on his visit to Turkey and on his conversations with the Turkish Prime Minister.
3. The Cabinet, acting in accordance with the Police Minister’s recommendation, decided to appoint Central District Commander Asaf Hefetz Police Inspector-General, effective 01.05.94.
4. The Cabinet ratified a cooperation agreement between Israel and Spain on anti-desertification.
