CABINET COMMUNIQUE

AT THE WEEKLY CABINET MEETING TODAY (SUNDAY), 23.01.94:

1. WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE ON NATIONAL SECURITY, THE PRIME MINISTER AND DEFENSE MINISTER, THE CHIEF-OF-STAFF, THE POLICE INSPECTOR-GENERAL AND THE COORDINATOR OF ACTIVITIES IN JUDEA, SAMARIA, AND GAZA BRIEFED THE CABINET ON ON-GOING MATTERS. THE CABINET ALSO RECEIVED OTHER SECURITY BRIEFINGS.

2. THE CABINET DISCUSSED MATTERS RELATING TO ISRAEL AIRCRAFT INDUSTRIES AND APPROVED, AMONG OTHER THINGS, A $338 MILLION INVESTMENT (IN NIS) TO ASSIST IN THE FUNDING OF RETIREMENT [PACKAGES] FOR 2,500 TENURED EMPLOYEES WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN MANAGEMENT AND REPRESENTATIVES OF THE EMPLOYEES AS WELL AS A STATE GUARANTEE TO ENSURE COVERAGE OF COMPANY PENSION PAYMENTS. THE CABINET RECORDED THE IAI PROGRAM OF ACTION FOR 1994-6.

3. THE CABINET APPROVED, BY A MAJORITY, AN AMENDED PROPOSAL FOR THE LAW ON THE IMPORT OF FROZEN MEAT ACCORDING TO WHICH NO PERSON SHALL IMPORT FROZEN MEAT WITHOUT A KASHRUT CERTIFICATE FROM THE CHIEF RABBINATE, OR ITS CONSENT.

4. THE CABINET APPROVED DECREES EXEMPTING PERSONS CROSSING [THE BORDER] AT TABA, VIA THE TERMINAL THERE, FROM THE PAYMENT OF PASSAGE FEE.
