STATEMENT BY ISRAELI FOREIGN MINISTER SHIMON PERES ON THE MURDER OF ARAB WORSHIPPERS IN HEBRON

Following is a statement by Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres in reaction to today’s tragic murder of Arab worshippers in Hebron by an Israeli assailant:

The loathsome murder of Arab worhippers in a house of prayer is a horrifying act which stands out in shocking contrast to our basic Jewish values.

This is a frightening expression of cruelty, devoid of human morality.

If anyone thinks that such criminal acts will slow the peace efforts, they are sorely mistaken.

Peace is the true answer to the hate-mongers and the sowers of grief. All those who seek a better life will continue, with renewed fervor and belief, to adhere to the peace process in our region, in order to establish security for both sides.

We extend our condolences to the bereaved families in their terrible grief, while in our hearts we pray for the speedy recovery of those wounded.
