RABIN ENDORSES CONTINUED SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAQ

(Communicated by the Prime Minister’s Media Advisor)

Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on a tour of Romat El-heeb, a Beduin village in the Jezreel Valley on Sunday, August 14, 1094, said:

"We support the policy of President Clinton and the policy of sanctions against Iraq in order to change its behavior. The government of Israel has not authorized anyone to contact Iraq, and we will not be caught doing anything ridiculous like this. Rather we line up with the United States and the other developed nations to bring Iraq to change its policies. I do not know of any arrangement with Saddam Hussein, nor have I requested any other go between, and neither am I interested in any."
