A two-day satellite communications workshop opened yesterday (Monday), 01.07.96, in Tel Aviv. Participating in the conference are member states of the Organization of Economic Cooperation of Black Sea Nations, as well as other countries, including Israel, which have observer status in the organization. The workshop is being organized jointly by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Communications.

This is the first time an event has been held in Israel by the Organization of Economic Cooperation of Black Sea Nations. Good relations with these countries are very important to Israel, on both the economic and political levels. The member countries are Russia, Ukraine, Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Turkey, Moldova, Romania, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. Observer states include Egypt, Tunisia, Poland, Slovakia, Italy, Austria and Israel.

During the workshop, participants will present their capabilities and needs regarding satellite communications, and will discuss various opportunities for cooperation. Directors-general of communications ministries and other government ministries, as well as representatives of relevant industries, are participating in the workshop.

In addition to the discussions in Tel Aviv, workshop participants will tour Israeli industrial plants, in order to view Israel’s capabilities

in satellite communications.
