1. PM NETANYAHU WELCOMES NEW U.S. APPOINTMENTS

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomes the latest senior appointments in the U.S. administration. He sent congratulations to Secretary of State-designate Madeline Albright, Secretary of Defense-designate William Cohen, National Security Advisor-designate Sandy Berger and CIA Director-designate Anthony Lake. The Prime Minister is convinced that these appointments reflect the continuation of the U.S.’s policy of friendship towards Israel, and will enable the two countries to work together to advance the Israeli- Arab peace process.
2. FM LEVY’S LETTER TO U.S. SECY. OF STATE-DESIGNATE MADELINE ALBRIGHT

Following is the text of the letter which Foreign Minister David Levy sent to U.S. Secretary of State-designate Madeline Albright on 05.12.96:
"Please accept my warmest congratulations upon your nomination as Secretary of State.
Your personal qualities and great professional ability have always marked your work, particularly at the United Nations, where as U.S. Ambassador you have represented your country with elegant wisdom and firmness and with a determination and dedication born of the great values [which] the United States represents.
It was a true pleasure to meet you recently in New York and to work together in the Security Council. I was charmed by your personality and by the genuine friendship you displayed.
The people of Israel and the United States share a great tradition of friendship and cooperation derived from the fundamental values we share. I look forward to working closely with you in the spirit of our shared values in order to advance the special and unique relationship between our countries, and to bring peace to Israel and the Middle East."
