Deputy Russian Foreign Minister to Visit Israel

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister for the Middle East and Africa, Victor Possuvalyuk, will tomorrow (Tuesday) 2.12.97, arrive in Israel as a guest of Foreign Ministry Director-General, Eitan Bentzur. The visit is in the framework of the Senior Advisory Forum between the Israeli and Russian Foreign Ministries, which was set up by Foreign Minister David Levy and his Russian counterpart Yevgeny Primakov during the latter’s visit to Israel in October.

It is expected that the following issues will be raised in the discussions: The peace process; developments on the Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese tracks and the multi- lateral process, which Russia has participated in from the beginning. For its part, Israel will raise the matter of the Russian votes in the UN General Assembly and Security Council.

Possuvalyuk, who has a doctorate in history, also acts as Special Representative to the Middle East for President Yeltsin. In addition to his discussions at the Foreign Ministry, Possuvalyuk will meet with President Weizman, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Levy during his visit.
