Building Refurbishment and Maintenance Law, 1981 (Summary)

This Law authorizes the Minister of Housing, following a request by the head of the local authority, to order the renovation of buildings in a certain area. The Minister will determine the level of participation of the government in the cost of renovations. The government is required to cover 30% of the cost of renovation of non-residential buildings, and at least 60% of the cost of the renovation of rent-controlled buildings. A person who does not comply with this law is liable to a fine.
