FM Sharon Invited to Make Official Visit to Russia

In a letter received today (Wednesday) 4.11.98, Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon was invited by his Russian counterpart Igor Ivanov to make an official visit to Russia at the end of November, to take part in a series of meetings with leaders of the Russian administration, and discussions on subjects of mutual importance to the two countries. In the letter, presented today by Russian Ambassador Michael Bogdanov to Foreign Ministry Director-General Eytan Bentsur, Ivanov conveyed the esteem in which Foreign Minister Sharon is held by the Russian administration, not least because of the importance which he is known to attach to relations between the two countries. Ivanov detailed the subjects which the Russians are interested in discussing with Foreign Minister Sharon in the course of his visit, namely: the Middle East peace process and bilateral issues.

Foreign Minister Sharon responded positively to the invitation, for which a precise date remains to be set.
