At the invitation of President Ezer Weizman and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Uzbekistan President Islam A. Karimov will arrive in Israel on a state visit beginning Monday, 14.9.98. President Karimov will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, Health Minister Shavkat Karimov and Foreign Economic Relations Minister Ilyer Ganiev, deputy ministers and other senior officials.

In addition to his discussions with President Weizman and Prime Minister Netanyahu, President Karimov will meet with Industry and Trade Minister Natan Sharansky, MK Shimon Peres, attend a seminar with Israeli business leaders (representing over 100 companies), visit Israeli factories and view, together by President Weizman, a cultural show by the Bukharan Jewish community organized in his honor.

This is President Karimov’s first visit to Israel and it will be the pinnacle of a series of visits between the two countries. During his visit, President Karimov will sign nine bilateral agreements dealing with, among other things, double taxation, customs, trade, health, agriculture and the environment. The visit is intended to strengthen the good relations between the Israel and Uzbekistan, and to open new channels for cooperation between the two countries.
