|Visit by EU President Halonen

The current President of the European Union, Finnish Foreign Minister Tarja Halonen, will arrive in Israel today (Monday), 2.8.99, on a two-day visit.
Foreign Minister Halonen will conduct a working lunch with Foreign Minister David Levy today (Monday), 2.8.99. Ms. Halonen will meet Prime Minister Ehud Barak tomorrow evening (Tuesday), 3.8.99.
During her visit, Foreign Minister Halonen will also meet with Regional Cooperation Minister Shimon Peres, and conduct visits to Yad Vashem and an Israeli hi-tech company. Ms. Halonen will also visit the Palestinian Authority.
During the course of her talks in Israel, where she will be accompanied by European Union special envoy Miguel Moratinos, Foreign Minister Halonen will be briefed on the peace process and discuss ways in which the European Union can assist the process. Ms. Halonen is also expected to address the matter of bilateral relations between Israel and the European Union.
