FM Levy and the FM of Portugal will Launch the Israel-EU Forum

The Foreign Minister of Portugal, Jaime Gama, in his capacity as the current President of the EU, will arrive today in Israel for a two day visit. He and Foreign Ministry David Levy will together launch the Israel-EU Forum. The decision to establish the forum was adopted last year. The forum is composed of entrepreneurs, economists, academics and diplomats, who will discuss matters of common interest, with the aim of enhancing and institutionalizing bilateral relations.

The Israel-EU Forum is the first of its kind in the Mediterranean basin. The President of the forum is former President of Germany, Roman Herzog; the Israeli Chairman is Mr. Michael Federman. The Deputy Director General for Western Europe, Mr. Ehud Gol and Deputy Director General for Economic Affairs, Mr. Victor Harel are the Foreign Ministry representatives on the Board of Directors of the forum.

Afer the meeting of Foreign Minister Levy with his Portugese counterpart (May 3 at 17:30), the two Ministers will launch the activities of the forum with a short ceremony. Following the ceremony, there will be a joint press conference of the two Foreign Ministers.

Deputy Foreign Minister Nawaf Massalha will host a dinner for Foreign Minister Gama and the forum participants and their guests.
