|Meeting Between Acting FM Ben-Ami and Russian FM Ivanov
(Communicated by Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
Acting Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami met today (October 31) with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Ivanov. At the end of the meeting, he told Minister Ivanov that Russia, Europe and the international community had the responsibility to tell Arafat that "enough is enough".
Minister Ben-Ami added that Israel would not be prepared to pay the price of the instability which Arafat had provoked. In his discussions with Ivanov, he stressed the need for Russia to demand Arafat’s immediate implementation of the Sharm el-Sheikh understandings, while also emphasizing that Europe had to make it absolutely clear to Lebanon that it should stop evading its responsibilities regarding the implementation of Security Council Resolution 425.
Ben-Ami added that "Russia plays an important role, and it is adapting itself to the changing situation."
