The Sea of Galilee Will Remain under Israeli Sovereignty

In response to questions from journalists in Jerusalem today, prior to the meeting between Prime Minister Barak and President Clinton, Foreign Minister David Levy stated:

"There is no reason for excessive optimism regarding the renewal of talks with the Syrians. Expectations of an agreement with Syria have already been proved to be illusory. The entire Sea of Galilee, including the northeastern shore, must remain under full Israeli sovereignty. Peace also includes the issues of demilitarization, limitations on armed forces, the resolution of the water issue and normalization. Peace must be made face to face, not by telepathy or fax, nor through a journalist – even if his name is Patrick Seale."
