The French Foreign Minister, Hubert Vedrine, will arrive on Thursday October 14, for a short visit to Israel. Mr. Vedrine will visit Israel within the framework of a regional tour involving bilateral discussions, and in his capacity as the current Chairman of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers.

Foreign Minister Vedrine will meet with the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, the Minister of Tourism and the Minister of Transport. Mr. Vedrine will be accompanied by EU Special Envoy, Miguel Moratinos. The visit takes place two weeks before the end of the French Presidency of the EU, and just a few days after the conclusion of the EU Summit of heads of state in Nice. The Summit empowered Minister Vedrine to visit the region in order to get an update regarding the situation.

Mr. Vedrine has visited Israel many times in the past, but this is his first visit in his capacity as the Chairman of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers.

Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami will meet with Minister Vedrine on Thursday for a working dinner which will take place at 19:30 at the Sheraton Moriah Hotel in Tel Aviv, to be followed by a press conference.
