At the weekly Cabinet meeting today (Sunday), 5.8.2001:
1. The cabinet appointed, on the recommendation of Finance Minister Silvan Shalom, Ohad Marani as the new Director-General of the Finance Ministry.
2. At the end of July 2001, the Ministerial Committee on Foreign Workers in Israel finalized quotas for employment of foreign workers in the construction and agriculture sectors. After appeals by Housing and Construction Minister Natan Sharansky and Agriculture Minister Shalom Simhon in favor of raising the quotas and Finance Minister Shalom in favor of lowering the quotas, the cabinet decided to leave the quotas for the years 2001 and 2002 at the level determined by the Ministerial Committee on Foreign Workers in Israel.
3. The cabinet appointed, on the recommendation of Industry and Trade Minister Dalia Itzik, Shmuel Mordechai as the new Director of the Investment Center.
4. In the framework of the discussions of the 2002 budget, Finance Minister Shalom, and Finance Ministry experts, presented the cabinet with a review of Israel’s 2001 economic performance and economic projections for 2002. The cabinet did not conclude its deliberations on the subject and will continue discussing the issue in the next cabinet meeting.
