Yad Vashem to hold first ever Seminar for Diplomats

A Holocaust seminar designed for ambassadors and diplomats in Israel will take place on 24th and 25th January (Wednesday and Thursday) at Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies.

Around 40 diplomats including the ambassadors of Switzerland, Poland, Nigeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the European Union will attend the seminar, jointly initiated by Yad Vashem and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Minister of Israeli Society and the World Jewish Community, Rabbi Michael Melchior, will open the seminar on Wednesday (24.01) at 09:00. Lectures will be given by Chairman of the Yad Vashem Directorate, Avner Shalev on "Holocaust Commemoration in Israel: Past Present, Future"; and by Head of Yad Vashem’s International Institute for Holocaust Research, Prof. David Bankier on "The Final Solution on the Jewish Question", amongst other topics. Further subjects to be discussed will include Holocaust Denial, Looted Jewish Property during the Holocaust, and Educational Philosophies on the Subject of the Holocaust.

The seminar will aim to bring Israeli based Diplomats closer to the subject of the Holocaust and its implications on Israeli society, in light of the fact that in recent years more and more countries throughout the world are establishing Holocaust memorial days.
