Arrest of Fatah Tanzim Terrorists from Ramallah

In the course of operations initiated by the Israel Security Agency (ISA) and the IDF, within the framework of Operation Defensive Shield, a number of senior military operatives from the Fatah Tanzim in Ramallah were arrested. The operatives carried out a number of large-scale terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians. Security forces located the operatives in the Qalandia refugee camp, and after a short exchange of fire, the terrorists surrendered. A number of the terrorists’ accomplices were also arrested, during the operation.
The following senior military Tanzim operatives were arrested:
Khaloum Naji: A 29-year-old resident of the el-Amari refugee camp. He is the brother of Abd el Minem Naji, the assassin of the Israel Security Official Noam Cohen, and Nasser Naji, a leader of the Tanzim in Ramallah who was also recently arrested by Israel security forces.
Khaloum was involved in the killing of a Palestinian suspected of cooperating with Israel. At the beginning of the Palestinian campaign of violence and terrorism, he was involved in shooting attacks against the IDF, and also participated in the planning of an ambush against IDF vehicles, close to the Ein Arik checkpoint.
In recent months, he was involved in dispatching a female suicide bomber who blew herself up at the Maccabim checkpoint, on February 27, 2002. In addition, he was involved in the dispatch of a terrorist to the Neve Yaakov neighborhood of Jerusalem on February 25, 2002. In the subsequent terrorist attack, a policewoman was killed, and ten Israeli civilians were wounded. In this attack, Khaloum served as the forward liaison, coordinating the attack and providing transportation for the terrorist to reach his destination.
Khaloum was also involved in the terrorist attack on the Seafood Restaurant in Tel Aviv, on March 5, 2002, in which three civilians were killed and 31 others were wounded. He was also involved in attempts to carry out additional attacks in the Jerusalem area. Israeli security forces prevented the attacks.
William Qadri: 22 years old and a resident of Ramallah, Qadri was a Fatah Tanzim operative, and a member of the Force 17 organization in Ramallah. He was involved in many shooting attacks against the IDF and Israeli civilians, including the following:
In recent months, he was involved together with fellow members of his terrorist cell in dispatching terrorists to Israel.
Ziad Hamdada: A 27-year-old resident of Ramallah, and a Fatah Tanzim operative who carried out a number of shooting attacks against the IDF. He also trained Tanzim operatives. Hamdada set fire to the body of one of the Israeli reservists who was the victim of the mob lynch in Ramallah in October 2000. He was also involved in the planting of an explosive charge in a Jerusalem pub on May 19, 2001. Fortunately, the owner of the pub discovered the explosive charge in time and disaster was averted. Over recent months, Hamdada in coordination with other members of his terrorist cell has dispatched suicide bombers to Israel, and has planned a number of terrorist attacks.
Ashraf Yamini: A 25-year-old resident of Ein Oum Sharit, Yamini is a senior Fatah Tanzim operative who was involved in many shooting attacks. In addition, he was involved in the planning of several attacks together with other members of his terrorist cell. These included a shooting attack on a bus of IDF officers close to the community of Ofra, a shooting and grenade attack on police vehicles close to Atarot, the planning of a car bombing close to a Jerusalem discotheque on Friday night, the planning of a shooting attack close to the community of Ofra and the planning of an attack on a vehicle driven by a military judge. Yamini’s terrorist cell had been gathering intelligence information for future attacks.
Yamini was involved in the attempt to bomb a Jerusalem pub, and also played a role in the dispatching of suicide bombers to Israel in order to carry out attacks. These attacks were foiled, due to the work of the ISA, the IDF and Israeli police.
Abed el Majid Hashem: A 22-year-old resident of the Amari refugee camp in Ramallah, and a Fatah Tanzim operative. He killed his employer Gad Rajwan on February 27, 2002, in his Atarot coffee factory. Abed Al Majid was dispatched to carry out the attack by the Abu Hamid family.
Mohammed Fares Khalil: A 29-year-old resident of El Bireh, and a Fatah Tanzim operative who was involved in shooting attacks at the IDF. He was a senior accomplice of Nasser Abu Hamid and other Tanzim operatives. He was involved in the dispatching of suicide bombers to Israel in order to carry out attacks.
The above arrests of the Fatah Tanzim terrorists have been carried out, as part of Operation Defensive Shield, in order to eradicate the terrorist infrastructure in the West Bank in general, and in Ramallah, in particular.
