Danny Ayalon appointed Ambassador to US

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres on Friday, May 31, 2002, decided on the appointment of the former’s foreign policy adviser, Danny Ayalon, as the next Israeli Ambassador to the US.

Ayalon, a professional foreign service diplomat, has previously served as deputy foreign policy adviser to former prime ministers Ehud Barak and Benjamin Netanyahu. He has also served on various diplomatic and informational missions abroad, including – inter alia – being a member of the Israel-US senior strategic dialogue team.

Ayalon, 47, and a native of Tel Aviv, is a graduate of Tel Aviv University’s Economics Department and holds an MBA from the US. He served in various international trade and finance positions prior to joining the foreign service.

Ayalon is married and the father of two daughters; he is a captain in the IDF reserves.
