Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer met last night (Wednesday), January 2, 2002, with Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen.
Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer said that "While more calm and a lessening of the scope of attacks can be seen in the field, Arafat and the PA have still not dealt with the terrorist infrastructure in a fundamental way, and additional effort on their part is required."
Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer emphasized that parallel to the fight against terrorism, the search for a diplomatic solution must be continued with the objective being a speedy implementation of the Tenet document and Mitchell plan.
Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer also raised the issue of the abducted soldiers and asked Foreign Minister Petersen to act with determination on the issue. On a related note, the Defense Minister expressed disappointment that Hizbullah was not defined as a terrorist organization by the EU.
