DM Ben-Eliezer’s meets US Deputy Asst. Secy. of State Satterfield

Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer met on Thursday afternoon, August 29, 2002, with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State David Satterfield.
The two men discussed ways to bring about a change in the policy of terror being pursued by the Palestinian Authority and the issue of PA reforms.
Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer emphasized that two basic reforms must be carried out regarding the policy of terror on the one hand and the PA’s finances on the other.
Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer detailed the "Gaza and Bethlehem first" plan and noted that he intends to continue working towards its implementation.
Regarding the northern front, Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer said that we are witnessing continuing attempts to provoke Israel and perpetrate attacks and added that it must be made clear to Syria and Lebanon that such attempts are ‘playing with fire.’
The two men also discussed various regional threats.
