Speaking at a memorial ceremony for victims of September 11 at the Park East Synagogue, Israel’s Foreign Minister Shimon Peres said that America demonstrated to the world its unrivaled courage in the wake of the attacks on September 11. "The demonstration of courage and dignity of your policemen, your firemen and your rescue workers, trying to save and trying to fight, stands unmatched in the world arena."

Peres said that the United States is the "commander" of the war on terror and pledged Israel’s unwavering support as America’s staunchest ally. "We are with you. We are part of you and we are fighting for exactly the same purpose," Peres said. "The victory against terror will be yours and ours together. I do not have the slightest doubt that we will win this war."

The memorial was co-sponsored by several Jewish organizations and was attended by several New York City police and firemen and city officials.

The ceremony was also attended by Israel’s Minister of Industry and Trade Dalia Itzik, who spoke of Israel and America’s partnership in the war on terror. "We feel kinship with the American people because of our shared democratic values. And it is those values that bring us together, united on the front line, as we fight against extremism and terror."
