FM Peres meets with FM Rupel of Slovenia

Foreign Minister Shimon Peres met on Wednesday, 21 August, with his counterpart, Dimitrij Rupel in the Slovenian capital city, Ljubljana. The two foreign ministers agreed to expand the economic ties between their countries and signed two agreements: a customs agreement and an agreement of cooperation on health matters.

Minister Rupel emphasized that his country appreciates the importance of its relations with Israel and noted that Slovenia appointed an honorary consul to Haifa, in addition to its ambassador and embassy in Tel Aviv. He reiterated his suggestion that Israel open an embassy in Ljubljana.

The Slovenian FM condemned terrorism and said that Arafat must fight terrorism vigorously. He also stated that Slovenia is interested in contributing to the efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East, and is offering to host negotiations or talks between the two sides.
