FM Peres to Visit France and the Netherlands

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres will depart tomorrow (January 22) for France, in order to visit the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Foreign Minister Peres will then visit the Netherlands (January 23-25, 2002).

During his visit to Strasbourg, Foreign Minister Peres will meet with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Walter Schwimmer, and with the President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. In addition, he will address the 600 members of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. There are 43 member states in the Council of Europe from all over the European continent. Israel holds observer status within the Parliamentary Assembly of this institution.

During his visit to the Netherlands, Minister Peres will meet with Prime Minister Wim Kok, Foreign Minister Jozias Van Aartsen, heads of the political parties and members of the Foreign and Defense Committees.

Foreign Minster Peres will attend a concert performance, organized as an act of solidarity with Israel, and he will address the World Leader’s Forum taking place at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He will also meet with leaders of the Jewish community.
