Foreign Ministry Director General appears before Knesset Subcommittee for Foreign Affairs

(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson)
Jerusalem, 30 July 2002

The Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Avi Gil, appeared yesterday, 29 July, before the Knesset Subcommittee for Foreign Affairs, headed by MK Tommy Lapid. The committee discussed the closure of eight Israeli missions abroad, necessitated by the drastic reduction in the Foreign Ministry’s budget.

Gil discussed the ramifications of the reduction and reviewed the staff work that was done prior to the decision by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to close the missions. The Knesset members were briefed on the flood of communications received from Jewish communities, governments and NGO’s protesting Israel’s decision.
