Foreign Ministry Director General Gil conducts working visit in Turkey

The Director General of the Foreign Ministry, Avi Gil, and the Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Amos Yaron, conducted a working visit on Tuesday (January 22) in Ankara. In the course of the visit, Mr. Gil held talks with the Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem and top Ministry officials, headed by Turkish Undersecretary Ziyal.

During the talks, a number of issues were discussed. First and foremost among them was the situation in the region, and Turkish-Israeli bilateral relations, as well as the possibility of importing water from Turkey to Israel.

The Turkish officials expressed great interest in the "Peres-Abu Ala" plan and offered their assistance in promoting peace in any way possible.

Both sides expressed interest in the continued development of relations between the two states, in a variety of fields.

Director General Gil asked his discussion partners to use Turkey’s influence in the region to increase the pressure on Arafat to fight terrorism.
