Gaza DCO facilitates export of Palestinian agricultural produce
(Communicated by Gaza Strip DCO)
The export of agricultural produce from the Gaza Strip to European markets – via the Karni crossing and Israeli ports – is continuing apace.
Sixteen tons of strawberries and 2,100,000 flowers passed through the Karni crossing on Sunday, January 27, 2002. This is in addition to the approximately 574 tons of strawberries and 20,000,000 flowers that have been marketed via the Karni crossing since the beginning of the season.
Such exports are proceeding despite the security situation prevailing in the area out of recognition of the agricultural sector’s importance to the Palestinian economy and due to the damage that delays could cause to agricultural produce.
The transport of agricultural produce from all parts of the Gaza Strip to the Karni crossing is being carried out with the assistance of the Gaza Strip DCO and in coordination with the Palestinian Authority.
This activity is expected to continue.
