(Communicated by the IDF Spokesman)
March 5, 2002
Palestinians fired two Kassam II rockets at the city of Sderot just before 17:50 on Tuesday, March 5, 2002. One of the rockets hit a residential building, moderately wounding an 18-month-old infant; the other fell in an open field.
This marks the first time that a Kassam rocket has hit an Israeli city. Firing rockets at a city constitutes the indiscriminate targeting of civilian populations.
The IDF will act to stop the firing of Kassam rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
