The Release of Ravit Shriki and Berta Cohen

Foreign Minister Shimon Peres sends his warm wishes to Ravit Shriki and Berta Cohen, on their acquittal today (May 9) and their forthcoming release from prison, following an appeal in an Indian court.

The Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi handled the case of the two women, from the moment they were arrested, and worked with dedication on the humanitarian aspects of their imprisonment, on the instructions of Foreign Minister Peres. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its great appreciation for the proper and efficient manner in which the Indian legal system has operated, showing sensitivity for the unique predicament of the two women.

Considerable relief also accompanies the release of Ravit’s baby daughter Or who was born in prison, and will arrive home for the first time.
