Visit of Foreign Minister Peres to the US

Jerusalem, 10 September 2002

Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres will be departing today for a weeklong visit to the United States, in order to participate in the General Debate of the 57th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

While in New York, Minister Peres will participate in a memorial ceremony conducted by the Jewish community commemorating the victims of the 11 September 2001 terrorist attack. In addition, Mr. Peres, together with the Mayor of New York City, will light a memorial torch dedicated to those who lost their lives in the attack.

During his stay in New York, Minister Peres with meet with the Foreign Ministers of Brazil, Ethiopia, the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Spain, Mexico, China, Russia and Armenia.

On Friday (13 September), Mr. Peres will conduct a number of diplomatic meetings in Washington, D.C.
