FM Silvan Shalom arrives in Morocco

Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom landed in Casablanca, Morocco with member of Knesset Danny Ben Lulu (Likud) and his delegation. Foreign Minister Shalom is carrying a personal message from Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Moroccan Foreign Minister Mohamed Benaissa received Shalom at the airport and welcomed him in the name of King Mohammed VI. Benaissa said that Morocco wanted to contribute to the peace process and emphasized that his country plays an important in the diplomatic political process between the Palestinians and Israelis, as it has in the past.

Foreign Minister Shalom thanked his colleague for the invitation and said that he awaits with great anticipation his meeting with the King. He added that Israel and Morocco share historic and special ties under the reign of both the present king and his father Hassan II. Shalom highlighted that Morocco has always contributed to the peace process and that he looks forward to hearing Morocco’s proposals during the course of his visit.

Foreign Minister Shalom expressed his hope that this visit will facilitate the restoration of relations with Israel by other Arab countries.
