Israel reaffirms its support for the existing Philippine government
(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)

Rebellious soldiers seized a major commercial centre in Manila early Sunday, July 27, hours after the Philippine government ordered the arrest of officers believed to be plotting a coup. Israel is concerned about the situation and is monitoring it.

The government of Israel expresses full confidence in the ability of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s government to restore order.

Israel declares that it is unacceptable that the rebels are resorting to unconstitutional means. The government of Israel fully supports the legitimate civilian government of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and hopes that the situation will be resolved quickly and by peaceful means.
