(Communicated by the GPO)

Senior Hamas military wing terrorists Ahmed Uthman Muhammad Badr and Izedin Hadr Shams-Edin Misq – "ticking bombs" who were engaged in planning suicide attacks in Israel in the very short term were killed today (Tuesday), September 9, 2003, during arrests that were carried out by the security forces in Hebron. Weapons and ammunition were found on their bodies.

Ahmed Uthman Muhammad Badr, 22, from Ras Ajura/Hebron, was directly involved in terrorist attacks, recruiting and training terrorists to perpetrate attacks, and providing weapons and explosives for attacks.

Izedin Hadr Shams-Edin Misq, 26, a resident of Wadi Abu Ktila/Hebron, was involved in initiating and directing terrorist attacks, recruiting and training terrorists, and providing weapons and explosives for attacks.

The Hamas infrastructure headed by Badr and Misq was responsible for terrorist attacks in which 85 Israelis were murdered and over 260 were wounded. Following is a representative (not exhaustive) list of the deadly attacks in which the two men were directly involved:

August 19, 2003 – Suicide attack on Egged #2 bus in Jerusalem, in which 22 people were murdered and 115 were wounded.

June 11, 2003 – Suicide attack on Egged #14 bus in Jerusalem, in which 17 people were murdered and 105 were wounded.

May 18, 2003 – Suicide attack on Egged #6 bus in Jerusalem, in which six people were murdered and 20 were wounded.

June 8, 2002 – Infiltration of Karmei Tzur, in which three people were murdered and five were wounded.

Hamas’ military infrastructure in Hebron is relentlessly planning major acts of terror inside Israel and in the Hebron area. The deaths of Badr and Misq constitute a severe blow to Hamas’ military infrastructure in Hebron and the attacks it is currently planning.
