FM Shalom announces reopening of Israeli Consulate in Mumbai

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom announced today in Mumbai that the Israeli Consulate will reopen there in the near future. FM Shalom, who was welcomed very warmly by hundreds of members of Mumbai’s Jewish community, expressed that being in a synagogue in Mumbai was especially meaningful as it symoblizes the connection between Israel and the Diaspora. He presented the congregation with a shofar (ram’s horn) in honnor of the recent Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur holidays.

The reopening of the Israeli Consulate in Mumbai demonstrates the strategic importance that Foreign Minister Shalom and the Government of Israel places on relations with India. In this light, FM Shalom, together with the head of the trade association, also met with economic and business leaders.
