FM Shalom meets with Irish FM Cowen

FM Shalom and Irish FM Cowen in Dublin (GPO)

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom met today with EU President and Irish Foreign Minister Brian Cowen and told him that European support for the Palestinian position contradicts the stated policy of the Quartet. He asked the European Union foreign ministers meeting in Dublin to block the Palestinian initiative to adopt a UN General Assembly resolution that would seek to determine in advance the results of a final settlement.

Foreign Minister Shalom said further that, if Europe supports this position, it will find it difficult to play a role in the diplomatic process.
