FM Shalom Praises EU Statement to ICJ
(Communicated by the Foreign Minister’s Bureau)

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom praised the EU decision to join the countries that are in opposition to the International Court of Justice offering a legal opinion on the security fence. Over the last month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has waged a wide campaign internationally urging world leaders to oppose the ICJ’s jurisdiction.

FM Shalom said that he hopes written statements opposing jurisdiction will convice the ICJ judges not to hear the case as it is a politicial and not a judicial matter. FM Shalom recently discussed this issue with his colleagues US Secretary of State Colin Powell, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and most of his European and counterparts.
