(Communicated by the Foreign Minister’s Bureau)
The Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom issued today the following statement in the aftermath of the apparent terrorist attacks in Russia:
Israel condemns in the strongest terms the apparent terrorist attacks on two aircraft in Russia which claimed the lives of 89 innocent people including two Israeli citizens.
Israel stands by Russia at this tragic hour. As a country which, too, suffers incessantly from atrocities perpetrated by fanatic terrorists, Israel pledges to work with Russia and all other civilized nations to stamp out this scourge. Only by ongoing, coordinated and concerted international action can such horrors be prevented in the future. These must include the outlawing of states and organizations involved in such activities and adopting an uncompromising stand in all international fora.
On behalf of the Government and people of Israel, I offer my sincerest condolences to the Government and people of Russia and to the bereaved families.
