(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier will arrive in Israel today (Sunday, 17 October) for a working visit. The minister, accompanied by his wife, will be the guest of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom. This is Mr. Barnier’s first visit to Israel. He met with his Israeli counterpart, Silvan Shalom, in Paris last August.
The visiting foreign minister is scheduled to meet with the Israeli President, the Speaker of the Knesset, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the head of the opposition. The dignitaries will discuss bilateral issues and other political matters.
Foreign Minister Barnier will visit Yad Vashem, The Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority, and will also place a wreath at the Memorial of the Deportation of French Jews during the Holocaust, in Roglit.
In the interest of learning more about Israeli society and contributing to the strengthening of ties between the two peoples, the visiting minister will speak at Tel Aviv University on the subject of France, Israel and an expanded Europe.
