Joint statement by PM Sharon and FM Shalom
(Communicated by the Foreign Minister’s Bureau)

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom decided today to cancel the trilateral meeting between Israel, the donor countries and the Palestinians. The parties were slated to discuss easing conditions for the Palestinian population.

There is no room for such discussions on this difficult day where innocent civilians were murdered on the streets of the capital of Israel. Foreign Minister Shalom said that it is up to the Palestinian Authority to fulfill its obligation to fight against terrorism. Absent this, there will not be progress in the peace process.
