A medical assistance team was dispatched today (August 5) by the Israel Foreign Ministry to Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, to help treat victims of the shopping center fire earlier in the week, in which 500 people lost their lives and may others were injured.

The team consists of two plastic surgeons, who will treat burn victims over a period of 10 days. This follows a special shipment of medicines sent immediately after the extent of the disaster became apparent.

At the beginning of the week, Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom conveyed to his Paraguayan counterpart the condolences and solidarity of the Israeli people with the people of Paraguay at this difficult time.
