Prime Minister Ariel Sharon today (Sunday), 5 September 2004 telephoned Russian President Vladimir Putin to express his horror and the horror of the people of Israel on the wave of terror attacks which occurred in Russia in the last few weeks, and specifically the terror attack in the school, where so many children’s lives were cut short.

Prime Minister Sharon asked President Putin to send his condolences to the Russian government, people and families of the victims.

The Prime Minister said that we must join together in order to fight against the dangerous terrorist phenomenon which does not distinguish between adults and children.  Prime Minister Sharon remarked that there must be diplomatic and intelligence efforts to destroy terror, and the two agreed to cooperation on matters relating to security, intelligence and humanitarian issues.

President Putin sent his condolences on the recent terror attacks against Israel and said that the Russian people mourn together with Israel and that he appreciates Israeli insistence on preventing terror attacks against it.

The two agreed to cooperation and increased connections between the two states.
