The President of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin, arrives today (Sunday, 21 November) as the guest of President Moshe Katsav, for his first official visit to Israel, accompanied by his wife, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, and Culture, and others.

During his visit, the visiting president will meet with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom, Minister of Agriculture Israel Katz and with the Head of the Opposition, Shimon Peres. He will also tour the Old City and visit Yad Vashem, The Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority.

The foreign ministers of the two states plan to sign four agreements in the fields of tourism, customs, standardization and health.

Israel and Moldova enjoy very friendly relations. The current visit by the Moldavian president is intended to boost the bilateral relations between the states on the diplomatic plane and in the field of trade and economics.

President Katsav visited Moldova in July 2003, a century after the Kishinev pogrom.
