Russian FM Sergey Lavrov will be arriving in Israel for a one-day visit, as part of a regional tour that will include Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be arriving in Israel this evening (Sunday, September 5, 2004) for a one-day visit, as the guest of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom.
This is the Russian minister’s first visit to Israel, part of a regional tour that will include Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.
During the visit, Mr. Lavrov will meet with President Moshe Katsav, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Shalom, Minister of Industry and Trade Ehud Olmert, and Opposition leader Shimon Peres. He will also visit Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority.
Among the topics to be discussed at the various meetings are Israeli-Russian relations, the diplomatic process, regional issues, and the recent horrific attack on the school in southern Russia. The foreign ministers are also expected to sign a joint declaration regarding consultations between the respective foreign ministries.
