(Communicated by the Israel Prison Service Spokesman)

The hunger strike by terrorist security prisoners ended a short while ago this afternoon (Thursday), 2 September 2004, at all Israel Prison Service facilities, when the last, approximately 600, prisoners at Eshel and Ohalei Kedar prisons finished eating their first meal, under medical supervision.

IPS medical staff will – in the coming days – continue to monitor the health of terrorist prisoners who participated in the hunger strike.

The hunger strike ended without any negotiations.  Humanitarian concerns that are unrelated to prison security and the security of the State of Israel will be considered in the future.

The IPS will continue to maintain operational readiness in all of its security prisons.
