Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom met today (15 July 2004) with the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (donor community) for the second time. The FM’s first meeting with the forum took place in Rome, Italy, in December 2003. The forum addressed channeling its work in support of disengagement and the rehabilitation effort in the Gaza Strip. All participants stressed the critical importance of Palestinian action in the security arena. Serious Palestinian Authority action against the terrorist infrastructure would enable Israel to ease restrictions.

FM Shalom said that the opportunity to rehabilitate Gaza must be seized. It would contribute to stability in the region and to the prosperity of both Israelis and Palestinians.

Participants included US Ambassador Dan Kurtzer, UN Envoy Terje Larsen,  Norwegian Ambassador Mona Juul (head of the AHLC), EU Ambassador Giancarlo Chevallard, Dutch Ambassador Bob Hiensch, and a representative of the World Bank.
