Spanish Foreign Minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos, will arrive tomorrow (1 December) for a visit to Israel, hosted of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom. Mr. Moratinos will be heading a delegation of Spanish Members of Parliament.
In the course of his visit, Mr. Moratinos will meet with President Katsav, Prime Minister Sharon, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shalom, and the leader of the Opposition Shimon Peres. The Minister will also visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Authority.
The visit will focus upon the full range of Israel-Spain relations, as well as the Middle East peace process, regional issues, and other international concerns. In addition, arrangements will be discussed regarding the celebration in 2006 of the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
This will be Mr. Moratinos’ first visit in Israel since assuming his present position, and comes following the visit last May to Spain by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shalom, as guest of his Spanish counterpart.
