Sweden’s Foreign Minister, Laila Freivalds, arrived for a two-day working visit in Israel as the guest of her colleague, FM Silvan Shalom.

Sweden’s Foreign Minister, Laila Freivalds, will arrive this evening (8 June) for a two-day working visit in Israel as the guest of her colleague, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom.
Minister Freivalds, who assumed her current post after the murder of her predecessor, the late Foreign Minister Anna Lindh, will be visiting Israel for the first time as Foreign Minister. She last visited Israel in September 2000, as Minister of Justice of Sweden.
During the visit, Minister Freivalds will meet with President Moshe Katsav, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and Foreign Minister Shalom. She will also visit Yad Vashem, The Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority, where she will speak on the evils of antisemitism and the need to continue the fight against it.
