The visit will focus on the situation in the region in the wake of the completion of the Disengagement Plan, as well as the bilateral relations between Israel and Europe.

The EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary-General of the Council of the EU, Javier Solana, will visit Israel on Sunday (August 28), as part of a regional tour that will also include the Palestinian Authority.

During his visit, Javier Solana will meet with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Vice Premier Shimon Peres, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, and Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz.

The visit will focus on the situation in the region in the wake of the completion of the Disengagement Plan, as well as the bilateral relations between Israel and Europe. Mr. Solana will be touring the region in order to gain a first-hand view of the completion of the Disengagement process, ahead of the informal meetings of the European Foreign Ministers on September 2.

At the start of the Disengagement process, Javier Solana issued a statement on behalf of the EU, in which he praised the courage and determination of the Israeli Government in carrying out the Disengagement Plan, and commended the organized manner in which it was implemented.
