An IDF soldier was killed and four were wounded when the Hizbullah terrorist organization carried out a coordinated attack on an IDF unit and posts in the area of Mount Dov.

(Communicated by the Foreign Minister’s Bureau)

The actions of the Hizbullah today are a challenge to Israel, the international community, the Lebanese people and all those who support a stable, sovereign and free Lebanon. As we have warned repeatedly in the last few weeks, and as is clear from the threats broadcast by Hizbullah’s secretary-general, the organization is trying to increase the tension on the border with Israel. This is in defiance of international and Lebanese efforts to create a more stable reality in Lebanon and in the region.

Israel holds the government of Lebanon responsible for what happens on its territory and expects it to take immediate steps to rein in the Hizbullah.

At the same time, the international community and the Lebanese government must address without delay the threat that Hizbullah presents to the stability of the Israeli-Lebanese border and to the implementation of the Disengagement Plan.

Foreign Minister Shalom instructed the Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Dan Gillerman, to present a sharp protest against Hizbullah activity on the northern border.
