FM Shalom spoke with his colleagues from Turkey, Oman and Jordan. Jordanian FM Hani al-Mulki conveyed a request to approve the appointment of Dr. Ma’rouf Bakhit as Jordanian ambassador to Israel.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom spoke with his Turkish counterpart, Abdullah Gul, and briefed him concerning a series of agreements and understandings between Israel and the Palestinians that were proposed at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit meeting. Gul expressed strong support for the outcome of the summit, as well as appreciation for Israel’s efforts, and noted that Turkey intends to support the process in an active way.

The Turkish minister announced, among other things, Turkey’s decision to produce uniforms for the Palestinian guard. He also proposed inviting Palestinian and Israeli businesspersons to discuss possibilities for joint ventures.

Shalom also spoke with his Omani colleague, Yusuf Bin Alawi, and briefed him on some of the results of the Sharm summit. The two ministers discussed enhancing the ties between their respective countries.

Foreign Minister Shalom said that he plans to take advantage of the positive atmosphere to push for the opening of ten additional Arab diplomatic missions from the Gulf States and North Africa.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Hani al-Mulki conveyed to Foreign Minister Shalom a request to approve the appointment of Dr. Ma’rouf Bakhit as Jordanian ambassador to Israel. Bakhit today serves as Jordanian ambassador to Turkey.
